No, you will not receive subsistence allowance if you must quarantine upon your return to Canada.

No. Travel insurance must be purchased prior to your departure from your province of residence and cover the entire duration of your trip (from the date of departure until the date of return to your province of residence). You must therefore purchase insurance before your departure.

Your insurance contract will automatically be extended free of charge for the duration of the hospitalization and for 24 hours following discharge from the hospital or up to 72 hours when the return is postponed due to a medical emergency that started within 24 hours of the expected return date and requires emergency treatment.

If you or your travelling companion must postpone your return because you need to receive care related to COVID-19, you will also have access to expenses for subsistence allowance, such as:

  • Accommodation costs in a commercial establishment
  • Meals
  • Taxi transportation
  • Childcare costs for dependent children who accompany you on the trip

If your trip takes place entirely within Canada, you will be able to purchase coverage for Emergency Medical Care in Canada. If you wish to travel outside the country, then you will need to purchase Emergency Medical Care coverage.

If you wish to cancel or postpone your trip due to COVID-19, begin by contacting the service provider (e.g., travel agency or airline) that sold you the trip to request a refund.

Please note that the Trip Cancellation or Interruption benefit no longer covers COVID-19 since March 12, 2020, the date from which we consider COVID-19 to be a known and uninsurable situation.

Vaccination does not affect our travel insurance coverage. For example, if you have been diagnosed with or have symptoms of COVID-19 prior to the effective date of your contract, you will not be covered for this illness. The Trip Cancellation or Interruption benefit no longer covers COVID-19 as of March 12, 2020, the date from which we consider COVID-19 to be a known uninsurable condition.

No. Preventive care services such as vaccines are not covered by travel insurance. It covers urgent care required following an accident or sudden illness.

Yes. Urgent care necessary to treat side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine are covered.
